Grilled Romaine Salad

It can be fun to try something different. Different can be something challenging, something new, or something outside the box. Different can be scary, frustrating, really rewarding, or all three. Nick, who loves origami, wanted to try something different. So he spent all last weekend making his teacher a thanks-for-being-so-awesome-this-year gift--a 3D paper fox cuz she loves foxes.

He found this really cool design online and spent the last three days cutting and folding 281 little rectangles of paper into tiny triangles and fitting them together. (He has endless focus, especially for a ten-year old.)

A Lot of Random but Fun Stuff

I don't have a lot to talk about on the food front. I haven't spent a whole lot of time in the kitchen lately as we've been crazy busy lately with work, school, and extracurricular activities. Having fun, but crazy busy. But there are a few happenings I want to share.

First, our yard is really coming along. We had a big hail storm a couple of weeks  ago that tore up our yard but everything seems to be bouncing back.

We lost quite a few peaches and those that survived are damaged--tragic because this is the first year our tree has produced peaches. And the lemon tree I've been trying to nurse back to health after a long winter and finally put on the back porch got shredded but it's starting to blossom.

Somehow the blossoms on the pomegranate tree hung on. Go pomegranates! Oh look, it is literally hailing as I am typing this...damn. I guess we'll see.

UPDATE: We survived today's random and spontaneous hail! All pomegranate blossoms are a go!
